CHEMICALS REQUIRED
  • Cleaning chemicals shall be fit for purpose, suitably labelled, secured in closed containers and used in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions.


  • Ensure dilution strengths (as per product label) and contact times (as per product label) are adhered to.

CLEANING METHOD

Cleaning Method

FLOOR

  1. Wash hands and put on gloves.

  2. Display warning signs.

  3. Pick up any obvious items of litter.

  4. Ensure good ventilation of the area you are working in.

  5. Prepare the cleaning solution in the mop bucket, in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

  6. Attach the mop head to the mop handle.

  7. Submerge the mop into the cleaning solution and remove excess using the wringer so that the mop is dry

  8. Using yellow disposable traditional mop, pre-soaked with cleaning solution, and commence at the edge of the furthest point in the room away from the door, using a sweeping, overlapping figure of eight motion, walking backwards towards the door, damp mop entire surface of the floor.

  9. Mop edges with straight strokes and then continue working from side to side in a backwards direction.

  10. The floor should be fairly dry on completion.

  11. Replace the mop head and solution as required throughout the cleaning process (e.g. if it dries out), placing the mop head in the appropriate waste bag.

  12. On completion, remove the final mop head and place in the waste bag, clean and dry all equipment and store safely and tidily in the correct storage area, segregated according to colour-coding where appropriate.

  13. Remove gloves and wash hands



WALLS

  1. Inspect all wall surfaces for dust, visible dirt or particles.

  2. Remove the above with microfibre cloth, disposable wipe or appropriate cleaning item. If necessary use a multipurpose cleaning spray.

  3. Prepare a fresh clean dilution (see data sheet) accurately in a clean container

  4. Mix the solution well and apply onto surface of a flat mop

  5. Using a dry disposable flat mop commence at the furthest point from the door using a vertical up and down motion. The motion should be overlapping. Move towards the opposite surface of the wall gradually covering the whole area.

  6. Repeat for all wall surfaces.

  7. Dispose of the mop and replace with a fresh disposable mop

  8. Place all used disposable mops in correct waste bag/bin.



SINKS AND TAPS

  1. Apply cleaning solution to all areas of the sink.

  2. Dampen or rinse a disposable cloth in the cleaning solution and wring so that it is quite dry.

  3. Clean the outer frame of the sink, pipe work, splash back and surrounds.

  4. Clean the taps, sink and drain.

  5.  Wipe over all surfaces of the sink including getting into the plug hole and all areas of the taps.

  6. Rinse cloth regularly and change the cleaning solution when it becomes soiled.

  7. Using the tap and a new cloth, rinse the cleaned area and thoroughly dry it



TOILET

  1. Wash hands and put on gloves. Wear goggles.

  2. Display the warning signs.

  3. Clear and tidy the surrounding area, moving any items placed on top of the cistern or on ledges.

  4. Insert Toilet Cleaner as per manufacturer guidance

  5. Place the toilet brush head beneath the water level and flush the toilet.

  6. Lower the water level by pumping down three or four times with the toilet brush and replace the brush in its holder.

  7. Prepare the solution of general purpose detergent or general surface cleaner in the bucket, in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

  8. Apply toilet cleaner into the inside of the toilet bowl, taking care to spray under the rim and around the normal waterline and leave in contact while performing the next tasks. Do not allow to dry.

  9. Dampen or rinse a disposable cloth in the cleaning solution and wring so that it is fairly dry

  10. Working from the outside to the inside, begin cleaning the flush handle, wall tiles, ledges, pipe work, toilet roll holder, sanitary bins, cistern, toilet seat lid.

  11. Lift the toilet seat and clean the underside and hinges of the seat, then the rim and underside of the bowl, finishing with the junction with the floor.

  12. Greasy soiling and limescale deposits will require use of the non-abrasive pad.

  13. Rinse cloth regularly and change the cleaning solution when it becomes soiled.

  14. Take the toilet brush and use it to scrub the inside of the toilet bowl, paying particular attention to under the rim and the normal waterline.

  15. Thoroughly dry the flush handle using paper towels. Insufficient drying will give a dull and unpleasing appearance to the stainless steel or chrome brightwork.

  16. Clean the toilet brush and holder using the general purpose cleaning solution and a cloth. If the brush or holder is damaged, scuffed or otherwise difficult to clean, it should be safely disposed of and replaced with a new one. Inform your supervisor.

  17. On completion, clean and dry all equipment and store safely and tidily in a secure storage area, segregated according to colour-coding where appropriate.

  18. Remove gloves and wash hands.




TOILET ROLL AND HOLDER

  1. Wash hands and put on gloves.

  2. Open the dispenser and check whether the toilet roll or tissue needs to be replenished. If necessary, remove any tissue present.

  3. Damp-dust all areas of the dispenser. Pay particular attention to the exit point.

  4. When the dispenser is dry, insert the toilet roll or tissue

  5. Remove gloves and wash hands.




MIRROR

  1. Spray general purpose cleaning solution onto the mirror.

  2. Wipe using a disposable cloth starting from the top and moving down to the bottom. Ensure the edges panels of the mirror are also cleaned.



 
CLEANING VALIDATION

Cleaning Validation & Inspection


Cleaned surface shall be visibly clear from all debris, soiling, food, residue and dirt.

Visual Inspection

Rapid Hygiene Swab Reports


Cleaning Analyses and Validation Reports including assessment for micobiology and allergens.


 
SIGN OFF PROCEDURE

Sign Off Procedure

Cleaning Record sheet to record cleaning work has been completed to the correct standard by a supervisor who is not the person carrying out the cleaning.
